5 Tips to Increase Email Open Rates

Email Marketing is a great way to bring traffic to your website, spread awareness of your company, and create sales. The content of your email has a big impact on whether or not they take action, but the content doesn’t mean anything if they don’t open your email in the first place. Here are 5 Tips to increase your email open rates and get people to look at your email content.

Tip 1: A great subject line

Before optimizing anything else for your email, you need to create a compelling subject line. Your subject line is the first thing the viewer will look at and is often the deciding factor for whether they will open the email at all. You want your subject line to be intriguing to your audience and action oriented, much like a call to action, to compel them to open your email. Then the rest is up to your content within the email, which brings me to my next tip;

Tip 2: Personalization

Personalization is best brought to the user through the text of the email. Using their name at the beginning of the email and quickly referencing a specific detail about your connection with them goes a long way. You should also always use context that is relevant to the subject or main feeling of the email. You want to give the impression of a real and interesting person so the readers are able to visualize the person reaching out to them. And a good name does just that.

Tip 3: Good name

Use a real sender name that is not generated. Your sender name and address can be a big deterrent for the people looking at the email. You never want to use a name that looks fake or out of character for your brand. They give a personality and visual apple to the sender based on assumptions and judgments of the name. For example, just putting the name “sender” or “store employee” would come off as impersonal and fake. But putting a name like “Kelsie Hale” or “Kelsie from Walmart” puts off a much more inviting energy.

Tip 4: Timing

Another Big tip is to know when to send the email. Certain days of the week and even the time of day can have a big effect on whether or not people will want to open an email at all. Think about it. You are much more likely to open an email right when you get to work and are starting your workday, rather than late after work when you are home doing projects. Send each email for the main group you want to open it and set it to the average time that group will be open to a new idea or proposition. For that to work, you need to know your audiences.

Tip 5: Segment your lists

Segmenting your audiences into smaller and more specific groups will be a big help in the process of email customization. With smaller target audiences you can set better times, visuals, and overall content, so they will be more enticed to open. Your groups can be split however you need, whether it be by gender, income, phone preferences, or anything else.

Email marketing does a lot to boost your company. Now you can make sure your emails are being used to their fullest by bringing people in with a good subject line and a personalized touch, making your name more inviting, and sending your content to the right people at the right time.
